Robert Clark, a well-known senior lawyer in Nigeria (SAN), has blamed the existence of the 1999 Constitution as the cause of the problems that plague the country.
Clark spoke in an interview with AriseTV, monitored by Ripple’s in Nigeria, on Monday, accusing the political class of preferring the status quo for selfish ambitions.
According to him, this document meets the needs of politicians, but does not meet the needs of Nigerians.
He further detailed the steps that President Muhammadu Buhari can take to amend the “rotten” constitution for the benefit of the country.
“I have been complaining that we have a rotten constitution for years. It has allowed so many immunities for the power given to the president and governor. All the problems we have are because the Constitution serves politicians, not the people, which is why they were able to accumulate wealth to harm people. ..
“President Muhammadu Buhari needs to submit a bill to the Diet to implement a constitutional amendment, which will ensure a resolution and referendum for the public to investigate it. This will ensure that NASS We are confident that the changes will be implemented and we hope that the President will implement them before the 2023 election, “Clark said.
Clark also lamented that the current democracy practiced by the country was the worst in her history and in the process set the economy back.
According to SAN, this has been proven by a number of politicians fighting for selective posts, despite the exorbitant amount of nomination forms imposed by political parties.
“Looking at the number of people in a hurry for selective status shows that politics is Nigeria’s number one profession, so many young people want to be politicians.

“This is because for the last 22 years, this democracy has been a worse form of government that the country has experienced in the last 60 years. The country allows leaders to steal money without repentance. Is sluggish
“The amount of money charged on the nomination form means that politicians are told to sow to enjoy the benefits after winning a selective post, but for the sake of clarity. To, it’s a constitution, and the law allows them, but morality?
“Political parties have the right to demand money, but it’s a shame that there are no happy areas in Nigeria’s life. Politicians are shameful. Today Nigeria is more than it was in 1982. It’s getting worse.
