The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) of the Federal University of Acourt has made a mistake in the process of appointing Professor Adenike Temidayorajiji as the de facto vice president of the university.
A university board of directors led by Amb. Godknows Boladei Igali confirmed at a meeting last week that Professor Oladiji was appointed as the facility’s first female deputy prime minister.
However, Professor Olayinka Awopetu, chair of the university’s ASUU, accused the appointment of being unsuccessful in a statement over the weekend.
He states: “At the meeting, we considered the process. We are not talking about individuals. At the end of the VC appointment process when the council had to choose from a list of three candidates submitted. A problem was found in the process.
“Three candidates are presented to the council in the order of their position. Under normal circumstances, the council should choose the first one because it is a benefit. There is no lobby about it.

“If the council does not choose the first one, the council shows a seriously compelling reason that the first one must be dumped for the other and the other becomes the second. You have to. If you also need to choose the second, you need a set of reasons why you shouldn’t choose him, and the third calms down.
“But in the case of this FUTA, the council chooses to leave the first, the second and the third, and vote between the first and the second with its wisdom, thereby depriving the third right. By law, all three candidates presented are well suited for VC status.
“If the council wanted to go to vote, they would have wanted to see three votes, but the third time they had two and zero votes, and I believe something happened here. You. If you aren’t choosing the best one for your college, there must be a compelling reason to accept it until the council does what it needs to do.
“The council can reverse itself and tell everyone why the first is unacceptable and why they have to settle down in the second.
“We rejected the appointment of the second individual in the interview submitted to the council. The ASUU parliament rejected the appointment by resolution.
“ASUUFUTA does not recognize the individual as a VC and will not be involved in it until all levels of proceedings have been completed.”
