DC’s One-Star squadron is a terrible criticism of capitalism, and in its latest issue, it focused on NFTs.
WARNING: The following includes the One-Star Squadron # 4 spoiler currently available from DC Comics.
DC’s Forgotten D-List Superhero faces the worst that capitalism must offer in a comical tragedy One Star Sentai.. The previous issue ended with Heroz4U, the boss of the Heroes of Hire business, being ordered by the company’s board to dismiss half of its staff. In the latest issue, he went to tell them that they needed to cut their budgets in another way, and while he was waiting to meet them, the cruelty of their first request was up-to-date. And it was illustrated by the most hated internet epidemic.
As Red Tornado waited, he heard the receptionist talking about a painting hanging behind her. One Star Sentai # 4 (by Mark Russell, Steve Lieber, Dave Stewart, and Dave Sharpe). The board is about to sell the company and has resorted to drastic steps to make it look more attractive to potential buyers. As a result, they forced Tornado to make this terrifying decision. What was sitting behind the receptionist solved everything without robbing these heroes of the only source of income, even though they were asked to dismiss half of their staff just to reduce costs. You should have done it.
Apparently, the painting was bought for a ridiculous $ 3 million. Not only that, the company believed it could be sold for four. Given that the heroes working for this Heroes of Hire company are struggling to make a living, it’s ridiculous for Heroz4U to fire them before considering removing the paintings. Who would say that the company will be sold anyway, so the next buyer will want anything hanging from their skyscraper headquarters reception? Already this whole situation was bad, but it somehow got worse.
When the artwork behind her was inevitably revealed, it added a terrible whole new layer to the whole of this ordeal. Some may recognize the type of artwork depicted in the paintings in this issue. The ugly chain smoking monkey is one of the NFT’s most notorious icons. For those who don’t know NFT, these “non-fungible tokens” are essentially like digital trading cards sold online for ridiculous amounts of money. They claim ownership of digital art works, but they cannot own digital art. It’s like having a piece of paper that shows that you own the Mona Lisa, even though it’s in the Louvre. They have been widely criticized for the sheer amount of force they take to maintain and the negative effects they have on the environment because of the harm they do to artists. Many people have created their work as NFTs and sold them without permission without their knowledge.
This further exacerbates the overall $ 3 million paint situation. Many in the tech industry are calling NFTs as fraudulent. Their supporters claim they help artists, but all they seem to have done so far is to hurt them. The smoking monkey icon, which has come to represent NFTs, is the perfect symbol of greed in this issue. The upper layers of Heroz4U don’t care about employees, just as many NFT supporters don’t care about environmental impact or harm to artists. It’s not surprising to know that Heroz4U is also investing in NFTs.
After all, it didn’t matter anyway. No one needed to fire the Red Tornado because they had already sold the company. The worst part is that they didn’t even try to talk to him. They left with their money and were ready to ruin the lives of his low-paying employees in Tornado for no reason. Hopefully the new owners of Heroz4U will treat their workers better than the old ones. However, with the money earned from the sale, the cruel company that operated the place could start a new venture. Whatever their obsession with NFTs, they will throw more people under the bus in search of wealth. Only this time, the victim will not have psychic powers.
