Post-E3 2021 Emotions: Devolver Digital and its Meta-Humor at NFT
2021 is the year of NFT. On the one hand, it brought public awareness to the mysterious art. Those who have never heard of coins and tokens learned about technological phenomena through news about NFTs. In addition, the world of nerdy cryptocurrencies has fused with a strange artistic sector to create an interesting jumble. It’s weird, but it’s still interesting!
Lots of room for improvement
Despite the extreme popularity of NFTs, crypto games have not yet been accepted by the masses. Even after Mark Zuckerberg’s meta announcement, it happens to be in the early stages of development. I’m still seeing a lot of mediocre projects popping up. Its main hook is that it is based on blockchain technology and, believing that this is enough, has play-to-ear functionality. On the contrary, a good game is made up of more components such as gameplay, graphics, design direction, storylines, and more.
E3 2021 should be considered a destination for blockchain games. However, only one blockchain game appeared during the event. It’s Mythical Games’ “Blankos Block Party”.
However, today’s attendee, an indie game publisher named Devolver Digital, also made some suggestions for NFTs at E3. What are the characteristics of this? The studio presented it in a very interesting way.
Who is Devolver Digital?
Devolver Digital is the largest indie game publisher currently in operation. The company has released game hits such as Hotline Miami, Fall Guys, Enter the Gungeon, Katana Zero, The Messenger, My Friend Pedro, Serious Sam, and Ape Out. The company is also widely recognized as a “rock star game” in the indie world, which of course represents rock star behavior. If you don’t believe us – see …
NFT will be non-F * ckwithable tape
Non-F * ckwithable Tape is what Devolver named “only” and “NFT”. Yes, yes, it’s certainly a VHS tape. A type that can only be inserted into a VHS player to watch Devolver E3 presentations on TVs and other devices.
Only one copy was made and sold for $ 1,000 shortly after the presentation was over. That’s what they call a real NFT!
Moreover, the method it was presented with was very unique. Instead of setting up a typical game trailer with Talking Heads intertwined, the company decided to make the entire movie with live actors, filling the current gaming industry with tons of irony and sarcasm. That’s how the NFT was caught in the middle.
The company has made a lot of fun in the traditional gaming industry. However, NFT also happened to be in trouble.
