- Horizon was hacked for $ 100 million while Bridge Steward said he was working with authorities to identify the attackers.
- According to the Harmony team, funds and assets from the Bitcoin Bridge are stored in decentralized vaults and are unaffected.
Horizon Bridge, a cross-chain interoperability platform between Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and Harmony Blockchain Networks, has been hacked for $ 100 million.
The Harmony teamBridge Steward said Thursday that he was aware of the theft and began working with state authorities and forensic experts to identify attackers to recover the stolen funds.
The team also said that the hack did not affect the unreliable Bitcoin bridge, as funds and assets are stored in decentralized vaults and are considered “safe at this time”.
Horizon Bridge claims to be fully audited by blockchain security company Peckshield. Blockworks has tried to contact Harmony but has not yet received a response.
This is the latest in a series of hacks on protocols, bridges and projects, with a $ 20 million theft from Optimism, an Ethereum scaling solution earlier this month, and a $ 320 million hack against the Solana Bridge wormhole in February. It is included. The Ethereum-linked sidechain Ronin Network used in the blockchain game Axie Infinity was also hacked in April for a $ 620 million theft.
Horizon enables cross-chain transfer of digital assets between Ethereum, Harmony, and BSC via a set of smart contracts deployed in these three chains. Users holding assets containing stablecoins, ERC-20 tokens, or Binance’s BEP-20 tokens can exchange them for Harmony’s corresponding assets in a 1: 1 ratio.
later Tweet update On Thursday, the Harmony team said they had identified the address of the hacker’s wallet. The balance of this address is about 85,837 ethers, or about $ 98 million, at the time of writing.
“We also notified the exchange and shut down the Horizon Bridge to prevent further trading. The team is all involved as the investigation continues,” he said.
