JONESVILLE — The Jonesville Historical Society will host the 25th Anniversary Jonesville Jubilee on May 7th, with a special mission to celebrate this year. Event coordinator Becky Wood said Jubilee’s goal this year is to raise money to repair degraded signs and statues in the Veterans’ Park on River Road.
There are statues in the Veterans Park in honor of the veterans, many of which have been destroyed. The park also contains signs detailing much of Jonesville’s local history, but it has been damaged by the rain for many years and is now almost unreadable.
According to Wood, the park is a special place in Jonesville, and many go to quiet remorse.
“We want to make sure it’s well taken care of,” Wood said.
She also said that the history of the area needs to be shared with the community and visitors.
“We have lost a lot of history in a small town,” she said.
Jubilee has been called by various names for years, but it was a fun day focused on the community with local vendors and live music.
Last year’s Jubilee was a huge success, and some food vendors were even sold out, Wood said.
This year’s Jubilee will bring back food vendors with products such as hot dogs, burgers and kettle corn. Craft vendors offer items such as clothing, artwork, woodwork, and drinking cups.
All-day live music features Easy Money at 10am. 1 pm fire. James Kippur will host Bingo at 2:30 pm, Creekside at 4 pm Jonesville Friends of the Library will host Bingo from 5 pm to 7 pm.
The evening ends with fireworks around 9:30 pm
According to Wood, the event still has opportunities for sponsorship. Donations to park renewals are always required. Mr Wood said any amount of donation would help.
