The NCSCA 1A Jeonju team consisted of 14 selections from 11 different schools. Only six players from the traditional 1A Public School were allowed on the team, two from Sally County.
Mount Airy’s Junior Elkin Lopez made his first selection during the 2020-21 season and was named the second national team. Lopez finished the year with 45 goals, 15 assists, 105 points and 205 steals.
Lopez’s 105 points are the highest in the state’s 1A sector, the fifth highest in the state of all classifications, and the 41st in the country. Lopez was also selected as the Northwest 1A Conference Offense Player of the Year.
Another county student athlete honored by the 1A Jeonju Team is Elkin High School Senior Thomas McComb. McComm’s individual statistics were not available in MaxPreps, but the goalkeeper recorded five shutouts that year. Buckin’Elkins finished second with a 9-3 record at the Northwest 1A Conference and finished the year with a 13-7-1 record. McComb was also selected as the NW1A Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Mount Airy’s Holden Harley recognized as a State Assistant Coach of the Year. Harley has received this honor twice so far, and Granite Bear’s assistant has been named the fourth coach of the year since 2012.
Harley led the Bears to a comprehensive record of 26-1 and set the next school record. The total win rate and consecutive win rate were 26, the regular season win rate was 22, the meeting win rate was 12, the home win rate was 100%, and the goal was 156.
