BOONVILLE — The Starmount baseball team entered the victorious line for the first time this season with two victories against Ashe County on Friday night.
And the victory over the enemy at the previous Mountain Valley Athletic Conference came in a dramatically different way.
Rams maintained a 17-16 extraordinary victory in a suspended game in West Jefferson from Tuesday night and easily won a nightcap 18-1 in a sweep.
Darren Shore confirmed the action on the mound in both Starmount (2-4) games and produced different results between the two games.
On Tuesday night, Rams dragged 11-4 after four innings, but scored seven runs in the last two innings and drew 11-11.
Rams led 14-12 when the match was canceled at the top of the top of the 10th inning, and after the match resumed, he worked on three more runs. These runs are essential to getting into Husky at the last at bat.
Ash County played four runs in his last at bat, but the relieved Shore bent over and postponed a late charge to win.
Junior was much more effective as he came back to start the second game, allowed 2 hits (both 2 innings), walked 1 and hit 3 in 3 innings to win.
Shore received a lot of run support from the beginning. Mason Moxley, who finished with 3 hits and 4 RBIs, put Starmount on the scoreboard in the RBI triple. The junior catcher scored in a Canyon Pennington wild pitch during Zack Dezern’s turn at bat.
When Ryan Kimmer reached the error and won Dezern and Jackson Craver, Starmount plated two more.
Husky cut into Rams’ lead at the second top behind Pennington’s play.
Juniors connected in a one-out double and scored in Drew Roland’s RBI single for a 4-1 game.
After the double to Pennington, Shore retired five of the last six batters he would face before the ball was passed to Noor Issa at the fourth top.
Rams bats reacted again in the second half of the second, benefiting from scoring runners.
Starmount, which loaded the base in each of the first three innings, loaded again in one out after Dezern (fielder’s choice), Crabber (single), and Bradyfan (walk) reached the base.
Zack Armstrong won Dezern on a walk after only 1/3 innings and chased Pennington in the process.
Luke Kimmer welcomed relief pitcher Samuel Tibs to the match with an RBI single, and Ryan Kimmer finished two matches with a two-run single to a 9-1 match.
Husky ended up using four different arms in the shortened game (the game was called after 4½ innings due to the rules of mercy), but couldn’t slow down the star mount.
Colin Estes came in for Tibs after the fans drew a grand slam walk after the first four star mount players reached the third base.
Rams scored nine runs for the third time, highlighting a trio of two-run scoring-based hits from Issa, Moxley and Moxley, making Dezern’s hit a long hit.
Starmount, who lost to Watauga 12-2 on Monday night, drew about as many walks (9) as hits (10) due to a fairly balanced attack. Seven of the nine Rams drove in at least one run.
