The NFT market has recently become a bit pickled. After the surge in 2021, NFT sales have leveled off and may actually have declined a bit, but something like GameStop hasn’t stopped entering the space on its own NFT marketplace. Hmm. Even stranger news is that a Web3 company known as Polium has unveiled the “world’s first” NFT console, questioning the direction of human evolution.
Despite the continued popularity of NFTs within a particular community, it is clear that more and more people are coming out of woodwork to completely condemn the concept. At a recent international gaming festival in Brazil, one developer talks about why NFTs are actually a “nightmare”, even though the event was sponsored by many NFTs and blockchain companies. I was able to do it.
Developer Mark Venturelli, known for his work on the tactical RPG Cromask Add, initially started talking with the label “The Future of Game Design,” but the title was effective in a slideshow. It was written that “Why NFT is a nightmare” that surprised the audience on the way when it was canceled and replaced. The talk itself has been uploaded to YouTube and his slides have been kindly translated into English for you to peruse.
Of particular interest is the fact that, despite the large amount of support from NFT-related companies, the event organizers cleared the content of the talk before the presentation, allowing Venturelli to speak uninterrupted. In a statement to PC Gamer after the event, Venturelli said the sponsors were, of course, not happy with the story.
“I heard the sponsors are really angry. While I was talking, they tried to interrupt the story, but the organization didn’t allow them. The organization did them, not one point. So it doesn’t surprise me. Did they censor me and they stopped putting what I wanted on the slides? I allowed them access to the slides before talking. Their side Did not intend to silence me. “
In a further bitter attack on the event’s sponsors, Venturelli said NFT companies are essentially irrelevant and need to enter into influential areas.
“These people are outsiders here and are not important. They are just trying to buy their relevance because they have no real impact on the future of our industry. Buy their story that they are exactly what they want and they are related. “
This is not the first time that the concept of NFT has been the subject of severe criticism. Earlier this year, UK publisher Team17 reverted to its own plan to launch a “Meta Worms” NFT in response to overwhelming negative reactions from consumers and developers. Similarly, Sonic’s publisher SEGA has shown that it could step back from the NFT space.
What do you think of Venturelli’s talk on NFTs? Do you think the concept is on the road to Dodo? Let us know in the comments!
