(Macon, Ill.) Nearly 100 cars were pitside at the Ripple’s Auto Body Open Wheel Extravaganza at Macon Speedway last Saturday night. Entering the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midgets were Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Cars built for top-notch doubleheaders. Three other classes also raced.
‘The Dauminator’ Zach Daum completed all 25 laps of the MOWA Sprint Car Feature on Saturday night. The driver, from Pocahontas, Illinois, was quick through the 18-car division and resisted the challenge of Slater Heldt and Paul his Nienheiser many times early on. The win was his third by his Daum at Macon’s Speedway in the MOWA Series, making him the most of any MOWA driver.
The Canon McIntosh rebounded mid-race to take the lead for its second consecutive feature win at the POWRi Midgets at Macon Speedway. New Zealand racer Michael Pickens raced in his second place.
In the POWRi Micro Sprints series, Macon Speedway regular Darrin Stark jumped over the top of the track and passed Jeremy Camp to take the win in the second half of the 20-lap race. Former track his champion and his one-time feature his winner in 2022, Stark came out of the lead the entire race and eventually grabbed the checkered his flag at the finish line.
Taylorville, Illinois driver Braden Johnson won two of the final three features at the track and took the lead on the first lap from the second starting spot. Behind him, the battle between Colby and Curtis Eller brothers took place. When the two were in second place, Johnson moved to the front. At the checkers, Johnson was followed by Colby Eller, Ryan Blair, Derek Smith and Curtis Eller to score his fourth feature his win.
Springfield, Illinois veteran Guy Taylor maintained his dominance in the DIRTcar Pro Mod division, leading every lap en route to his eighth feature win of the season. While he checked out, the action from second was exciting with Dean Holt, Austin Sheets, BJ Deal and others mixed up.At the checkers, Taylor followed Sheets, Deal and Adam Rose. , followed by Zach his Taylor.
Next up after Macon Speedway is the Diane Bennett Memorial on Saturday, August 6th. Already he has raised over $11,000 and added to the budgets of six departments.
