Starmount Rachel Fentes stopped diving last Thursday in the first half of Rams’ 9-0 victory.
BOONVILLE — Six Starmount female soccer players found the other side of the net when Rams defeated East Wilkes 9-0 on Thursday night.
However, there was no bigger applause than the applause after Victoria Sanchez scored a goal in the 39th minute and led Lady Rams 4-0. Second graders also added assists to the match.
Before Sanchez’s goal, Amy Ocampo gave Starmount (7-10-1, 4-7 Northwest 1A) a 1-0 early advantage. After that, Meili Carasco scored two of the four goals in the 15th and 29th minutes.
Seniors also assisted 4 goals, added 2 more goals in the second half, and finally finished the game in the 79th minute.
Lady Cardinals, who were 2-9 at the Northwest 1A Conference and 4-15 overall, had a chance to score in 33 minutes.
Alyssa Baker charged the pitch and faced star-mounted goalkeeper Rachel Fentes one-on-one. Her senior came up with a sliding save for one of her six saves.
Four different star mount players scored in the second half, four ahead in half time.
Ashley Santos scored a goal in the 53rd minute, with Annette Allerano and Carlamon Dragon scoring almost every minute in the 58th and 59th minutes, respectively.
Mondragon scored Carasco’s mistake and went up to 7-0.
Kierstin Dowell scored 23 stops with a goal from East Wilkes, who lost 4-0 to Mount Airy on Monday night, despite being plagued by attempts to shoot. Lady Cardinals concludes the season with Elkin on Wednesday.
In addition to Carrasco and Sanchez, Crystal Ruiz, Melissa Jimenez and Tania Lorenzo-Cortez have added assists.
After losing five games in a row on Thursday, Starmount returned to the pitch on Monday, making a 5-3 decision at West Wilkes.
Mrs. Rams, who finished the regular season against North Stokes on Thursday, led the Lewis trio goal 3-2 in half-time. Lady Blackhawk (10-6-1) rallyed with three goals in the second half.
Carasco assisted two goals and Jimenez added a helper. Fuentes finished with 14 saves.
