Web3 game console maker Polium has announced its first product, Polium One. This community-led project aims to build “the world’s first multi-chain game console.”

However, the project seeks to build a foothold in an industry that was primarily hostile to the key components of the Web3 initiative: cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Gamers believe that these assets and the underlying technology are tools for implementing microtransactions.
Some gamers also argued that cryptocurrencies contributed to global warming and generally had a negative stance on the industry. Therefore, it is not surprising that the announcement of Polyum saw many negative interactions.
Critics pointed out the similarities between the Web3 console logo and the Nintendo GameCube logo. Polium denied copying the Nintendo product logo and stated that it was “used by multiple companies.”
Polium is putting pressure on the community by saying through the official Twitter handle:
Many criticisms and mixed reviews. Web3 games are in the future. Prepare a functional prototype (…) before pre-ordering or raising funds. The Nintendo GameCube logo is not copied. There are several companies that use similar logos. However, it does show the original new logo.
Polium One supports 4K Ultra HD in games with ray tracing and refresh rates up to 120 frames per second. According to the announcement, the game will be developed for multiple chains such as Ethereum, Solana and Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

The console includes its own dashboard to facilitate the user experience. As shown below, this project aims to include crypto wallets, voice chat, messaging apps, marketplaces for NFTs and in-game items, and other Web3 features. Polium added:
The console is powerful enough to run high-performance games and is easy to use for traditional gamers who don’t understand Web 3. Not only will this solve the problem, but it will also be heavily adopted in the Web3 space.
Web3 games and players?
Polium One allows gamers to play “exclusive” titles. The company is currently working with Web3 game developers and claims to make a new announcement “soon.”
The console seems to have components and technical capabilities for running AAA games, but few studio-quality titles implement NFT or Web3 elements. Players pushed back every time a major game company tried to release it.
This is not an obstacle for the team behind Polium. The founders argued that they were working on a project for “themselves” and believed that the future of the gaming industry was underpinned by blockchain technology. Through Twitter, the founder said:
We have hardware and software experience. The console is built and runs on the roadmap. This space attacks builders who are building Web3 to help extend Web3. Also, we are building a console for ourselves and it never stops.
According to the product roadmap, Polium One is currently in hardware development. Software development will then take place, a working prototype will be created by 2023, scheduled for production by the end of the year, and may be launched in 2024.
